Our history

In the beginning, the focus of Door System was the production of hinged and sliding doors for the food industry – a sector in which hygiene and durability remain two of the most important parameters to this day. Door System has extended its business over the years to include roller doors and fire doors as well.

In 2010, Door System acquired the company Miljø og Teknik ApS enabling us to expand our product portfolio to include steel doors and swing doors for use in the retail sector. We have expanded our product portfolio to include strip curtains, and now we believe that we can supply a wide range of products to our customers.

For many years, our production facilities were scattered between several locations in Hasselager, but in 2018 we moved to a new domicile in Hørning with 6,000 sq.m. of production, sales and administration space gathered under one roof.

In 2023, Door System could then celebrate its 25th anniversary. Read more about the story below.

A fantastic journey through more than 25 years

Door System A/S could celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2023. Back in 1998, Preben Søndergaard, owner and CEO, started out on the kitchen counter in his Hasselager home and, today, Door System is one of the leading door manufacturers in Denmark.

Preben Søndergaard established Door System in 1998. At the time, the philosophy was, and still is, that with an innovative mindset it is possible to create competitive door solutions of the highest quality - made in Denmark.

What started out on the kitchen counter in a Hasselager home, now has grown into one of the leading manufacturers of doors and gates in Denmark with more than 70 employees.

”It all began with sliding doors and steel doors for the food industry. Since then, we have expanded our range and it now includes roll-up gates, swinging doors/revolving doors, and fire doors. Over the past 25 years, our focus was always on developing and producing tailored door solutions contributing to minimizing energy, operational and maintenance costs”, Preben Søndergaard, owner and CEO, says.

Doors and Gates for the Food, Pharmaceutical, and Retail Industries

Today, Door System has three primary markets: the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the retailing industry.

”Our doors and gates are specifically designed for the food and pharmaceutical and retailing industries where hygiene and durability are vital focus areas. Over the years, we have acquired extensive knowledge of these three industries and because we know their door or gate solution requirements so well, we can provide exactly what they need,” Søren Rahbek, the Door System Sales Manager for more than 13 years, says. Søren has been with us for a large part of the journey.

Focus on Fire Solutions Was Crucial

A very crucial milestone to the development of Door System was focusing on fire safety solutions.

”We manufactured our first fire door back in 2014 in collaboration with Danish Crown, and in 2015, we hired an engineer, Brita Rosenbech, who was tasked with fire door documentation and requirements as one of her core duties. Today, Brita is our Technical Manager and is part of our management,” Preben Søndergaard says.

Since 2014, Door System has accumulated much knowledge of and experience with fireproofing. We invest a lot of resources in developing and testing door solutions in accordance with the new European standard and we have thorough knowledge of applicable and new fire safety regulations.

”Today, we see an increased focus on fire safety solutions. The large projects involve fire safety requirements to a far larger extend than before. Typically, almost 80% of the solution for a larger project includes fire safety requirements,” Søren Rahbek says.

Own 6,000m2 Factory in Hørning

All our doors and gates are produced at our production facility in Hørning, and the move from Hasselager to Hørning in 2018 was also an important milestone.

”Before the move, our production facilities were scattered on several addresses in Hasselager and this was not convenient. Hence, we wanted very much to have everything under one roof and to establish an optimal coherent production flow, and with the Agerskovvej facility in Hørning, our dream came through. From the previous 3,000m2, we now have almost twice as much space, close to 6,000m2, for production, sales, and administration,” Preben Søndergaard says.

Service and Installation Are an Important Part of the Business

An important part of the Door System business is our service and installation department which has been very important in relation to the development of our company.

”We have our own team of service engineers who install and service our products at the premises of our customers. Automation and control components are often included in our solutions and it is important to our customers that everything is in order and up and running before our service engineers leave the premises. Currently, we have 16 service fitters in our service department and they visit customers all over Denmark, and we hire new employees for this department on a current basis,” Brian Ankjær Jakobsen, Service and Installation Manager, says.

Anniversary Arrangements

To begin with, we will be celebrating the anniversary by throwing a grand party for all employees.

”Our employees have a huge stake in our company being what is is today and I am really looking forward to celebrating with them. And, of course, we could not have done it without our customers and partners as well so we will be inviting them to an anniversary celebration on the other side of the summer holiday season,” Preben Søndergaard says in conclusion.
